This locator has been developed to provide a graphical representation of the types of charities that exist across Canada. As you start down the process of starting a charity it is helpful to know who may be working to a similar objective as you. The intent is to provide opportunities to connect, share and potentially collaborate.

This locator is sorted by the types of charities that exist within Canada and the activities that they undertake. It is not intended to be a tool to find specific charities but as a tool to provide an overall view of the extent and breadth of work performed by charitable organizations in communities across Canada.  If you want to find a specific charity, CRA's website has a comprehensive listing of all Canadian charities that you can search.

The basis for this tool is the Canada Revenue Agencies own database, developed through the annual submissions provided by charities.   If you find that the information provided for a specific listing is not correct contact CRA to update your information.

To use you will need to provide information on the various types of activities that charities perform. 

• Charity - refers to the type of charity organization you wish to find e.g. Charitable Organization, Public Foudnation or Private Foundation.
• Area of Work - refers to the field of activity that a charity participates in e.g. Health, Education, Social Service.
• Activities - refers to the more specific activities that a charity performs and the selction will change depending upon your selection for the preceeding two areas.
• Province - refers to the province of Canada that the charity is based. 
• Work Performed - refers to the specific activities that the charity engages in on a day to day basis.  This is a very long list and is very specific.

The system will only allow you to conduct a search that will result in 500 or less charities.  Please continue to refine your search if your results are greater than 500.  Only the first three categories are required.
