Facilities

A sustainable non-profit organization that owns or operates facilities will:

  • Provide adequate physical facilities and infrastructure for staff, volunteers, clients and members, including appropriate security;

  • Have appropriate knowledge of and policies regarding contractual obligations for the use of facilities and will have exercised due diligence to reduce or eliminate potential legal liabilities relating to facilities use and ownership i.e., landlord or property management obligations;

  • Demonstrate compliance with applicable regulations, including building occupational health and safety codes;

  • Accessible to people with disabilities; and

  • Have a plan to address any upcoming changes (reserve fund, capital campaign, lease improvements, potential purchases of property). A proactive plan might be needed to renew and replace infrastructure, including assessments of facilities.
